WHAT IS THIS SITE? HOW'D IT COME ABOUT?
"Come and join your father in the basement." Starting at age 6, the majority of my evenings started with that phrase from my dad. I'd finish doing whatever the hell I'd do most of the day and descend into the dark and mysterious lair I and many know as: the "man cave".
I'd walk down the stairs, jump into a seat and feel my father's eyes burning a hole into the side of my head. I'd turn and brace myself for the customary pre-screening fun fact. Then, he'd drop it on me: "When your dad was 23 years old...", "I first saw this when I...", "What you're about to watch is considered...", etc. Then, he'd click play.
Sometimes, I'd sneak my GameBoy down there and play on the side, but he'd snap on me early. Then, I'd watch. And, boy, would I watch. I would sit there and go to another place. I wasn't in the basement anymore. I was on the boat at the end of Some Like It Hot or Don Corleone's office in The Godfather or even on at the CTU headquarters with Jack Bauer in 24 (all required viewings before age 7, apparently). I was everywhere and anywhere my mind and those movies would take me. It was an escape from the mundane suburbs I grew up in. Watchings things with my father was habit. It was bonding. It was education, inspiration and the fruitification of a young, curious mind. It was love.
Through the years, passions and hobbies came and went, but through it all, one thing remained immovable: the love I had for cinema. To this day, I've probably seen over 800 different movies and TV shows and, understandably - I can't keep all these thoughts in my head anymore. So, here we are.
